LUMEC was tasked to undertake a feasibility assessment for the redevelopment of a swimming pool complex in Mdantsane township which is located in Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) in the Eastern Cape. The main aim of the study was to determine the financial implications for BCMM as well as the potential revenue streams. From a community perspective, the objective of the redevelopment is to provide a safe environment for swimming activities to take place in order to revive the culture of swimming in the local area. The recommendations for this project were based on careful considerations of the assumptions, international and local best practice, usage statistics, demand scenarios and stakeholder engagement.
